Tryout and Coach Selection process for Rep & Dedicated Select teams

THE BELOW INFORMATION IS FOR 8U to 18U (excluding HPP (AAA) and EBLO teams)

DATES

Tryouts for these teams will start the Tuesday after Labour Day.

Exception: We endeavor to start the 8U tryouts in late August. 

Once the dates are finalized, they will be posted on the BOMBA website. Dates are subject to change based on diamond and coach/instructor availability.

HOW ARE TEAMS SELECTED?

In the first few tryouts, all players usually tryout together. If there are large numbers participating, players may be broken up into smaller groups by last name. 

The next step is determining which players will be invited to the Team 1 tryouts based on the skill level determined in the initial tryouts. All players will receive an email from the Team 1 coach to ask them to continue trying out for Team 1, ask them to continue trying out for Team 2 & 3 or inform them that they have not been selected to move on in the tryouts. Players continuing in tryouts for Teams 2 & 3 will receive an email from the coach running those tryouts.

After Team 1 tryouts are completed, the Team 1 Coach will send the Rep Committee their picks for the team. Once the roster is approved, the Team 1 Coach makes the calls to inform the parent/guardian that the player is being selected for Team 1 or that they will be a part of the Team 2 tryouts.

The process then repeats itself for Team 2, Team 3 and Dedicated Select (not all levels may apply for all age groups)

For the Dedicated Select teams, we review the evaluations from both the Major and Minor age groups.

If a coach has not yet been selected for a team, we ask for feedback from the coaches that ran the tryouts to recommend players for that level. We will then seek a coach from that parent group.

Please note that not all levels (1, 2, 3, Dedicated Select) will be available in all age groups. The number of teams depends on the number and the calibre of participants.

Strike Zone: 

BOMBA has been using Strike Zone instructors to assist with the tryouts and team selection for 8U.

For age groups where we increase the number of teams (9U and 10U, for example), StrikeZone will assist with the tryouts, collaborating with the named coaches for the age group to pick the players for the new teams. 

COACH SELECTION

Applications for next season's Head Coaches will commence early July and conclude mid-August. Interviews will be conducted in August. 

Coach applications are reviewed by the Rep committee and are confidential.

Rep committee members with players within BOMBA do not participate in the Head Coach selection process for their player's age group.

Coaching decisions will be announced on our website on Labour Day weekend. 

COACH REQUIREMENTS

Head Coaches must be available to participate in tryouts in September.

Head Coaches must be available to participate in indoor training from early January to late April,.

All Coaches must have a valid police check (Vulnerable sector) that is less than 2 years old in January.

All Coaches must ensure they obtain the required NCCP certification as mandated by Baseball Ontario. 

Assistant coach applications are not accepted. Assistant coaches will be selected once teams are finalized.
