Ontario Senior Baseball Champions
The Burlington Bulls finished off their 5th season competing in OSBA (Ontario Senior Baseball Association) capturing their league record 3rd championship going back to back with their 2008 victory. The Bulls finished the regular season with a 22-3-1 record and then swept their quarter final series over the Mississauga Stars and semi-finals versus the Forest Glen Giants in a best of 3 series. In the finals, they met a familiar opponent for the Bulls in the Brooklin Dodgers, the same team that beat them in 3 straight in the 2006 finals.
In Game 1, Jamie Kozak took to the mound for the Bulls and pitched a 1 hit shutout as the Bulls offense did just enough to win with a 1-0 victory.
In Game 2, veteran Jon Leyland took the ball and fell behind 2-0 in the first on some shaky defense, before buckling down and pitching 6 scoreless to give the Bulls an 8-2 win and commanding series lead.
The Bulls travelled to Brooklin for game 3 and gave the ball to their franchises winningest pitcher in Cam McKnight who went 5 strong innings in a back and forth game highlighted by a clutch triple from Kip Keith and a 2 RBI double from Jason Hogan to give the Bulls a 7-4 lead. Chris Hayes pitched the last 2 innings for the save and the Bulls finished the post season a perfect 7-0 and captured their 3rd OSBA Cup.
The club won their first championship in 2005 and have managed to increase their winning percentage every year since that season as they’ve established themselves as one of the best teams in OSBA’s 9 year history. The current roster has seen some turnover, but still has 7 members of the 2005 team.
