Dorchester Champions!
Jun 28, 2017, 5:33 pm

This past weekend the Minor PeeWee Navy Squad played in the Dorchester Summer Slam Tourney.  It was a HOT, WET and WILD Weekend.  With a 2-1 record in round robin play, with the only loss coming to the Tier 1 Cambridge Cubs via mercy, the boys received one of two byes into the semi finals.  The Semi-final was close for the first few innings until some big two out hits rallied the Bulls for an 11-3 win and put them on into the finals, versus the same T1 Cambridge Cubs squad who had only given up 2 runs over their first four games and had walked through (“mercied”) all teams in front of them.

The Navy Bulls jumped out to an early 2 run lead in the top of the first inning, and then adding single runs in the top of the third and fourth.  Cambridge was able to start a comeback, with runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, sixth and in the seventh inning, eventually having the tying run on second base in the bottom of the 7th with only one out.  With an opposite field hit over the third basemen’s head, it looked like the tying run would cross the plate, however, with the batter already assured of second base, the defense was able to make a good hard throw to the dish and get the second out on a bang bang play at the plate, the Bulls needed one more out, which came via a pop to SS and the Bulls celebration started.

Congrats to the entire squad – who received contributions from EVERYONE on the squad over the course of the weekend – a GREAT job and well deserved W.  NEXT TOURNEY – COOPERSTOWN!!!

Minor Rookie Ball AAA Bulls Go 5-0 to Win the MSBA Tournament

After a slow start to the season the Burlington AAA Minor Rookieball team was looking forwards to a weekend full of baseball.  In a AAA only tournament with a deep field consisting of Markham, Scarborough, Barrie and fellow COBA teams MSW, and Hamilton the boys know that the competition was going to be strong.  The tournament format was simple, play everyone and top two teams advance to the finals.  This created a roadmap that had the Bulls playing five guaranteed games between Saturday and Sunday with the Friday evening games being cancelled due to unplayable field conditions.  The tournament started against a powerful hitting Barrie Red Sox team followed by Mississauga SW, Markham and Scarborough.  The Minor RB Bulls were able to go 4-0 through the first games while our neighbour, and postponed game one opponent, Hamilton was doing the same.  This resulted in the fifth game being the only game that was needed in order to determine a champion.  The Hamilton Cardinals are true to the stereotype the steel city brings - hardworking and tough - not to mention BIG!  The championship game was back and forth with amazing defensive plays and clutch hitting from both teams.  Ultimately, with the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs with what seemed like the largest seven year old to ever come out of Hamilton at the plate, a four seamed fast ball was screamed back up the middle only to be stabbed out of the air by the readiness of the Bulls' pitcher.  Game over...Bull's Win!!!
